Sarah volunteers at EYECAN
‘With both children grown up and off to University, I needed a new purpose in life. I heard that EYECAN were looking for volunteers and thought this would be an ideal opportunity to get involved in something new.
‘Initially I helped out at the Day Centre where we served the members lunch and helped with quizzes etc. With my background in teaching I was then asked if I would help with the arts and crafts group on a Wednesday. I now have been doing this every Wednesday for a few hours and primarily work one-on-one with a lovely lady who needs this level of support - we do a range of arts from painting to mosaics and flower arranging and sometimes we even just sit outside in the sun and talk.
‘I would thoroughly recommend this type of volunteering as it’s hugely rewarding for both the charity and the volunteer.’
