Kiera Troy volunteers at the Jersey Library
‘I initially volunteered at the Jersey Library for the Summer Reading Challenge and to learn more about computer scratch coding as part of the Duke of Edinburgh programme.
‘My role has been generally just helping out kids at coding and listening to children tell me about their books. What has surprised me is not only how much better I’ve gotten at scratch, but also how much I’ve genuinely looked forward to my volunteering sessions.
‘There’s a myth out there that volunteering is boring – that is so wrong – there’s always something to do! To anyone volunteering I would say to make sure people know you’re a volunteer. It really helps when people know who to come to.’
